Description
NRENs exist to serve their users – research and education communities. Traffic patterns from the regional network show that the vast majority of the traffic passing through the network is still between Africa and other continents. There is very little traffic between African countries, which may suggest that even when it comes to research collaborations, these are still is very little inter-country collaboration. Through initiatives primarily those funded by the European Commission, the Alliance and selected NRENs have been trying to engage end user communities of practice. This has often resulted in situations where the NREN does not have contacts of end user communities of practice beyond the ICT Directors and Vice Chancellors that they are often in contact with. The purpose of this workshop is to provide a forum where the NREN community including its stakeholders discuss the best ways of engaging end user communities of practice to drive up demand for connectivity and value added services.
