Duncan Greaves
Duncan Greaves trained at the University of Natal, an institution that he later served variously as a lecturer in political theory, as Academic Computing Manager, and as IT Director. He joined TENET in 2003, initially as Capacity Development Program Manager and later as Service Manager. He was appointed CEO of TENET at the beginning of 2013.
Hellen Nakawungu
Hellen Nakawungu, works with Research and education network for Uganda(RENU) the Ugandan NREN, where she has worked in the technical department transitioning through different levels. She’s currently the head of department systems and software and also the coordinator for the Cyber Security team. She is a computer Scientists and passionate about AI. She is a member of ISOC-Ugandan Chapter and also a registered member of IEEE
Kennedy Asseda
Kennedy Aseda is the Chief Technology Officer at KENET and has been working at KENET since 2008. He holds a Msc. In Information Security, a Bsc. in Electrical & Electronic Engineering. At KENET he oversees the technology strategy for KENET that includes the network, data center, cloud and cybersecurity. He also represents KENET as a member of the Global eduroam Governace Committee (GeGC) as one of the regional representatives of Africa tasked with defining technological and administrative improvements for the operation of eduroam (https://www.eduroam.org/) at the global level.
Heidi Morgan
Heidi Morgan’s research area is the development and operation of high performance international wide-area submarine cable networks that support research and education collaborations between the US and Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa. Her team has implemented a production SDN network of 630G capacity that connects exchange points in Brazil, Chile, Panama, Puerto Rico, and others to the AMPATH International Exchange Point for Research & Education in Miami at the NAP of the Americas. Morgan works closely with the Center for Internet Augmented Research & Assessment (CIARA) at Florida International University, which she co-founded in 2003. Heidi is a Co-Principal Investigator (PI) for several NSF funded projects including: IRNC: Backbone: AmLight Express and Protect (ExP), [Co-PI] AmLight ExP will be a reliable, leading-edge infrastructure for research and education.
Tangui Coulouarn
Tangui Coulouarn, PhD, works at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) for DeiC, the Danish NREN. He has been involved in the development of different network, trust and identity, and security services in GÉANT. He is currently the chairman of the eduVPN board at the Commons Conservancy.
Edward Moyinham
Edward Moynihan is the Principal Network Engagement Analyst at Indiana University. In this role, Moynihan supports the NEA 3 R and TransPAC5 projects by working directly withscientists and researchers to help achieve better international file-transfer performance and to increase utilization of IU’s international research networking systems. He also works closely with IN@IU’s international partners to promote the use of international research networking resources and to deliver enhanced functionality to research collaborators and other R and E networking stakeholders. Prior to joining the IN@IU team, Moynihan led Global Programs at Internet2 and served as Co-Secretary of the Global Research and Education Networking CEO Forum.
Nyasha Fadzai Thusabantu
Nyasha Fadzai Thusabantu (Eng.) is currently the Academic Programmes Director at the Harare Institute of Technology (H.I.T) a leading technopreneural university in Zimbabwe. Eng. Thusabantu also sits on the board of the Zimbabwe Women Business Council and is the secretary for the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWEZI) Harare Chapter. Prior to her current position she was the Chairperson of the Software Engineering Department at H.I.T. She holds a Master of Technology Degree in Big Data Analytics from SRM University-India and is currently working towards her PhD. She has also studied Mobile Hacking and Network Security at Daejeon University in South Korea. Nyasha specializes in Big Data and Security, its applications in various fields and how it can benefit the various facets of academia and African Industries, demonstrated by her work with a number of organizations in the industry. She is a professional member of Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers, IEEE, ACM and actively participates in
furthering the cause of Women in ICT.
Oscar Rodriguez
Engineer Msc. Oscar Rodriguez is a Senior international Project & Programme Manager, as well as guest lecturer at various Business Schools and Universities, with 21 years of professional experience. He holds a Masters Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, an MBA, a post-graduate in HR, and is PMP certified by the PMI. He speaks four languages and published two books in three countries.
As the ITU Project Manager for PRIDA he is based in Addis Ababa and leads a multidisciplinary Project Management team based both in Addis and Cairo.
David Heyns
Dave advises on the adoption of cloud services and related digital strategy for universities and research institutions across Europe, and countries supported
within GEANT’s broader outreach. He is the project director for OCRE (www.ocre-project.eu) on behalf of the European Commission. OCRE will construct frameworks supporting the consumption of commercial Cloud and related Digital Services by the European R&E community. OCRE will also stimulate this consumption by funding strategic research projects with regards cloud services.
Dave supported commercial cloud services across the global R&E community for three years. He also spent twelve years managing the deployment and support of student related solutions across the institutional enterprise at an international research university. Prior to this, he spent eighteen years as a consultant – developing and deploying enterprise systems software in the United States and Southern Africa in support of process in financial services, healthcare and the broader public sector.
Dave lives in Amsterdam and travels extensively in support of cloud related NREN
activities.
Salem Al-Agtash
A professor of Computer Engineering and a Co-Managing director at the Arab States Research and Education Network. His research and technical expertise covers areas in Energy, Education, Science, e-Infrastructure, ICT, and Institutional development. Since 2010, Prof. Alagtash has been involved in the e-infrastructure development in the Arab region, mainly in the EU funded AfricaConnect and EUMEDConnect projects. Since 2018, he has also been an adjunct lecturer at Santa Clara University
Fabrice Moutte
Since March 2018, Fabrice Moutte has been working as Chief Information Officer at Sorbonne University. He has been working in network and IT departments for 30 years in Research and Education. First as Network Architect and Administrator, for the last 10 years as team manager, Chief Information Security Officer and Chief Information Officer.
Stein Mkandawire
Stein Ostaman Mkandawire the current Chief Executive Officer of the Zambia Research and Education Network (ZAMREN). He is an Information Technology (I.T.) professional with over ten years of work experience in planning, designing, development, leading, managing I.T. teams, managing I.T. projects and maintenance of computer information systems. He started his career as a metallurgical technologist in 1996 with Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM) Ltd and switched to I.T. in 1999, joined KCM Plc in 2002, moved to the Copperbelt University (CBU) in 2003 up to September 2012. He holds an MSc in Data Communications & Software Engineering, BSc in Computer Science and a Diploma in Mining Metallurgy.
Omo Oaiya
Omo Oaiya is the Chief Strategy Officer of the West and Central Research and Education Network (WACREN). He was the pioneer CTO of the RREN and continues to work on the technical development of high-capacity Internet network infrastructure for research and education. Before WACREN, he was CEO of Datasphir, a private sector consultancy offering software development and project management support to research and academic institutions in Nigeria and other parts of Africa. He leads LIBSENSE, an Initiative aimed at building the information management capability of librarians and researchers, fostering communities of practice, and strengthening local services to support open science and research in Africa. A certified SIM3 Auditor, he has keen interests in the establishment and maturity of security teams (CSIRTs) in NRENs.
Mohamed Ali
Mohamed Ali is the head of systems and services at SomaliREN. He implements, supports, maintains, and manages all IT services and infrastructure. He also contributes to the ICT development of the country by volunteering communities like SomNOG. He has a master of Science in Computer Science from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India and a bachelor of Science in IT from SIMAD University, Mogadishu, Somalia.
Klass Wierenga
Klaas has an extensive background in innovation management, with an emphasis on identity, mobility and security. He oversees GÉANT's Trust & Identity activities and Community Programme and manages the T&I, Partner Relations and Research Engagement teams. Before becoming GÉANT Chief Information & Technology Officer, Klaas acted as GÉANT Community Support Officer. Before joining GÉANT, Klaas was a senior consulting engineer and identity architect at respectively Cisco Systems' Research and Advanced Development group and Cloud Infrastructure Services group. Before that, Klaas was an innovation manager and manager of Middleware services at SURFnet, the Netherlands NREN. There, Klaas built the first generation of federated identity systems at SURFnet and was the creator of the eduroam service for WiFi roaming in research and education. In 2012 Klaas was the recipient of the first GÉANT (then TERENA) Community Award for creating eduroam. Klaas served as chair of the GÉANT Task Force on Mobility for more than 10 years, as chair of the IETF Abfab working group, as a member of the IETF Security Directorate and as a TNC prgramme committee member and chair. Klaas is (co-)author of 'Building the Mobile Internet' (Cisco Press, 2011) and 'Wireless Networking in the Developing World' (2013), as well as three RFCs. He also holds five US patents. In September 2019 Klaas was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in recognition for his invention of eduroam - the global Research and Education WiFi roaming service.
Pamela Abbot
Pamela Abbott is a senior lecturer in Information Systems at the Information School, University of Sheffield, UK. Her research interests lie in distributed collaborative work and information and communication technologies (ICTs) and development. She has authored a paper, capturing the prestigious Best Publication Award in 2013 from the Association of Information Systems (AIS) scholars. More recently, she was an investigator on 2 EU-sponsored infrastructure-related projects in Africa focused on developing sustainable research and education networks in the West and Central regions. She currently researches higher education information professionals in this region and the roles they play in ICT-led transformations under the LIBSENSE initiative.
Marin Režić
Marin Režić has been working for CARNET since July 2018 as an associate in the Education Support Department. He has been participating in the administration of the Moodle system available for all schools and universities in Croatia, as well as user training and support. During the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Croatia, support for teachers who conducted teaching via CARNET’s Moodle service was his major task. Marin has also been contributing to the CARNET’s e-Laboratory portal first by writing articles about digital tools that teachers can use in teaching and then by editing and maintaining the portal. Marin Režić completed his graduate studies in electrical engineering, communication, and informatics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Osijek, and thus acquired the title of master engineer of electrical engineering. Along with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, he also completed the Program for pedagogical-psychological-didactic-methodological training at the Faculty of Philosophy in Osijek.
Brian Nisbet
Brian Nisbet is Service Operations Manager at HEAnet, the Irish National Research & Education Network. He joined the company in 2001 and moved through a number of positions before being appointed to his current role in 2019. Brian is passionate about providing the best possible services to both external and internal clients and making sure those services are designed and run with security in mind and in a supportable and measurable way. He is Co-Chair of the RIPE Anti-Abuse Working Group.
Rebecca Kangabe
Rebecca Kangabe is an experienced Technical Project Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the information communications technology and services industry. She boasts of over eleven years of ICT experience, part of which have been spent as a support/systems administrator and as an IT project manager in Uganda and Sub-Saharan Africa. She is Skilled in Mobile Telecommunications system's, Project Coordination and Operations Systems Support strategies. Currently working as Technical Manager at Uganda Christian University Rabecca posses a Project Management Professional certification and a Master's Degree focused on Engineering Management from Brunel University London.
Walimbwa Michael
Walimbwa Michael is a Lecturer at Makerere University College of Education and
External Studies in the Department of Foundations and Curriculum Studies. His philosophy is embracing a community of practice approaches to make pedagogical integration of ICTs interesting every passing day. He has been involved in teacher education and training since 2008, teaching courses at both graduate and undergraduate. He has taught courses like Curriculum Design and Development, Instructional Strategies, Electronic Learning, Curriculum Assessment, Instructional Design and Educational Technology among others. With a PhD in Education from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, his area of speciality and research focus on ICTs in Education. He has been involved in transforming courses to e-learning and helping colleagues to attain digital competencies. A father of four children (two girls and two boys), Dr. Walimbwa believes he is making an impact in the Teacher Education the world by leverage competence in usage of ICT usage for delivery of 21st century education.
Ahmed Siyad
Mr. Ahmed is a qualified ICT professional with more than eight years of experience in designing and managing service provider network infrastructure. He joined Somali Research and Education Network (SomaliREN) in February 2016 as Chief Technology Officer to lead the organizations' technical direction and network vision. In addition to that, Mr. Ahmed has been continuously involved in the recent development of the Somali ICT sector, contributing to ICT professionals; technical capacity development by supporting relevant institutions and communities in the country such as SomNOG or the Somali Government through MoPTT.
Mr. Ahmed has a Master of Science in Networking and Telecommunications from M. A. Jinnah University, Karachi, Pakistan, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Telecommunication from Hamdard University in the same country.
Jasna Tingle
Jasna Tingle has been working in Croatian Academic and Research Network – CARNET for over 20 years. She is currently a Head of E-learning Research and Development Division, a small unit within CARNET's Education support department. In this position Jasna coordinates research activities conducted by CARNET and its partner institutions. In recent years some of the researches have been focused on the impact of training and education that CARNET provided for its users. Other researches have cast a wider net, studying the role of digital technology in the work and life of students and teachers in Croatia.
Nick Dua
Nick Dua is the Senior Director of Communications for Keystone Symposia. He oversees all communication and marketing activities for Keystone Symposia. He helped launch Virtual Keystone Symposia with the specific aim to extend the reach and impact of life-science research to broader audiences worldwide, via digital media technologies. Nick has held positions in very diverse industries that include The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard (Biotech, Non-Profit), The Beanstalk Group (Branding and Licensing) and Ziff Davis Publishing (Technology and Publishing). His experience is equally diverse and include digital communication, marketing, brand-building, technology, video production and storytelling. He combines these elements and continues to explore innovative ways to communicate science to the global community.
Sajitha Bashir
Dr. Sajitha Bashir is Education Sector Manager for Eastern and Southern Africa region of the World Bank. She has over 15 years of operational and research experience with the World Bank, national and state governments in India and other donor agencies. Within the World Bank, she has worked in Africa, South Asia and Latin America, where her priorities have been leading policy dialogue, strategy development and designing and guiding education sector reform programs within the broader framework of fiscal and governance reforms. She has extensive experience in preparing and implementing projects at all levels of education. Prior to joining the World Bank, she worked as Chief Consultant for Research and Evaluation with the Government of India’s national primary education program. She has a Ph.D. in economics from the London School of Economics and has published extensively.
