Visiting Ethiopia
Most visitors to Ethiopia require a visa. EthERNet, the host is facilitating the process of obtaining visas for all conference participants. The first stage is for you to register for the conference from where we will obtain your details and send you an invitation letter. Please note that the invitation letters are being manually prepared and stamped in Addis Ababa therefore we need your patience. It is advised to register earlier.
Participants must make sure that they have knowledge of the existence of an Ethiopian Embassy in their home or resident countries.
Visa Application in Home or Resident Country
Those that have an Ethiopian Embassy in their home or resident countries need to apply for their visas at the Embassy. Before you submit your application at the Embassy, you need a pro-approval from the Main Department of Immigration and Nationality Affairs in Ethiopia. EthERNet is working with the Department to obtain these approvals. Please ensure that you have your invitation letter and the pre-approval document before going to the Embassy for visa application. If you are resident in another country, please include your resident visa or work permit in your submission.
Visa on Arrival
Visa on arrival will ONLY be issued to those that do not have an Ethiopian Embassy in their home or resident countries. We are working with EthERNet to apply for pre-approval for Visa on Arrival for such participants. If you are resident in another country, please submit your resident visa or work permit. You must ensure that you have received a signed invitation letter and pre-approval for Visa on Arrival before departure for Addis Ababa.
Online Visa Application
Nationals of some selected countries are eligible for online ‘conference’ visa application. Applicants must attach their invitation letter when applying. For a list of eligible countries, visit the e-Visa Portal and proceed with application.
